Thanks to the success of the class reunion and alumni dues support, we were able to increase the amount of our scholarship from $500 to $1000.
The recipient of the 2017 award went to Peter Sileo, grandson of Peter and Alice Gomez Sileo.
The 2018 award was given to Jessica Nimmo daughter of Christine Bourke Nimmo and the late Brian Nimmo.
The 2019 award was given to Lauren Sileo granddaughter of Peter and Alice Gomez Sileo.
The criteria for the scholarship submission is “What growing up in the community has meant to me” and “What influence has the family member alumnus of Washingtonville had on me.” The selection process is anonymous with only the president knowing who the candidates are. Each essay is read out loud by the president and the committee votes on a sliding scale. Also included in the submission is the student’s GPA, their community service and their letters of recommendations from guidance and faculty. In 2018 there were 11 applicants. In 2019 there were 7 applicants.
The 2020 Scholarship Award went to Ryan Sliwinski.
In 2021, it was decided to award two scholarships: the recipients were Samantha Soehnlein and Kaitlyn Heins.
